About the Artist
Sierra is a textile artist whose work blends nostalgia, storytelling, and whimsical design. From a young age, she explored every creative outlet she could find— writing, photography, musical theatre, painting, and even cake decorating— always drawn to the joy of making things by hand. Her love of fashion began as a teenager through Disneybounding, eventually leading her to pick up sewing and designing her own original pieces, including her Minnie Mouse-inspired prom dress.
After initially pursuing architecture with dreams of designing Disney parks, Sierra discovered that while she liked constructing and designing things, she hated buildings. She then went on to graduate from Cal Poly with a degree in Theatre Arts focused on costuming, where she refined her sewing and designing skills.
While she had tested the waters previously, Sierra truly discovered embroidery during the pandemic, quickly turning the craft into her primary artistic medium. What began with smaller personal projects quickly evolved into intricate hand-embroidered wearable art, including custom jackets for her wedding party and family.
Her most significant ongoing work is the “Jobe”, a vintage denim trench coat inherited from her grandparents and transformed into a love letter to Disneyland and its design through original embroidered artwork. The piece became the foundation for her signature style: whimsical, geometric designs conveyed through rich textures and pattern work. Inspired by artists like Mary Blair, Rolly Crump, Joey Chou, Jerrod Maruyama, and Ann Shen, Sierra continues to create imaginative texture art rooted in nostalgia and play.
Sierra's artistic endeavors have helped her develop her own artistic style, express herself, and foster a sense of curiosity. She now shares about my projects and the process it takes to finish them to help others do the same!
